The final timetables for Beginning Irish have come out at last. One of the sessions is twice a week in the evenings, so it doesn't conflict with anything. I'm planning on dropping Ireland 431-800 and the New Testament course, both of which don't start for a while anyway. This leaves me with 2.5 extra credits, but it's 3 less papers which makes my life a lot easier. The real problem is that I'm currently taking Beginning Greek and Beginning Irish, and I'm taking Beginning Hebrew in January, and I somehow have to be ready for a 400 level Latin course second semester. If I can still speak coherently in English, I'll consider myself lucky. (However, I have been told that learning Irish somehow makes learning Hebrew easier.)
Today was also Fairs Day at Maynooth. I signed up for Outdoor Pursuits and the International Society, both of which go on frequent trips all over the country, and to my delight they do have an active rowing club! Active being a relative term, in that there were about 4 people signed up, none of whom had rowed before. It seems that I'm going to have to learn to scull, as it is unlikely that they will be able to manage a women's four, much less an eight. As long as I'm doing something, though, I'm happy, and they might be going to a club in Dublin to row this weekend.
A bunch of us have started a tradition of going to the Roost, the pub in Maynooth most popular with students, on Tuesday nights for the Pub Quiz. Last week we didn't do so well, as it was mostly focused on obscure '80s movies and music, but this week we gathered a larger group and got 16 out of 20, one short of tying for first place. The prize is a gallon of Coors, which no one really wants, but it's a lot of fun to play.
I didn't take any pictures in Tuam, and I still haven't taken any of campus. I'm hoping that the weather will be nice while everyone is gone this weekend to get some good photos. There's some really beautiful places around South Campus, including a really cool fountain and pond. There's also the random castle that's squeezed in between the college, the police station, and the mall. Everyone just walks by without paying much attention. That sort of thing doesn't happen in Cleveland.
